This article caught my eye, my mind, my heart.
It speaks of a rising tide of clients seeking help for their distress about our political situation…
“Many grew up believing in certain norms about institutions, leadership and basic behavior. When those expectations are repeatedly violated, it can feel deeply destabilizing. Not considered depression or PTSD—moral injury, or distress, is what many in my practice and my world are describing how they feel when seeing headlines, listening to political podcasts, or watching news.
The article in The Guardian is titled ‘Not unique to war’: millions of Americans suffer from moral injury. What’s causing it?*
Psychologist Michael Valdovinos explains moral injury as, “…the psychological harm that arises when experiences violate a person’s core ethical beliefs.”
